The Standing Committee on Labour (Chairperson: Kirit Somaiya) submitted its report on 'Industrial Training Institutes and Skill Development Initiative Scheme' on January 4, 2018.In 1950, under the Craftsmen Training Scheme, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) were established, for imparting skills in various vocational trades to meet the skilled manpower requirements of the country. There are 13,353 ITIs across the country, of which 11,000 are private ITIs.

How Many Govt ITI In India?

According to the Ministry, there are 14312 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) functioning in the country. Out of them, 2204 are Government and 12108 are Private ITIs. All of them, however, are affiliated to the National Council of Vocational Training. Schemes to set up more new ITIs are in progress. The entire list of all the ITIs has also been made available by the Ministry. According to the list, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of ITIs. What Is CTS ITI?

The Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) was introduced by the Government of India in year 1950 to ensure a steady flow of skilled workers in different trades for the domestic industry, to raise quantitatively and qualitatively the industrial production by systematic training, to reduce unemployment among the educated youth by providing them employable skills, to cultivate and nurture a technical and industrial attitude in the minds of younger generation. The Scheme is the most important in the field of Vocational Training, and has been shaping craftsmen to meet the existing as well as future manpower needs, through the vast network of ITIs spread over various States / Union Territories in the country. The day-to-day administration of ITIs under the Craftsmen Training Scheme was transferred to the State Governments/ Union Territory administrations with effect from the year 1956. From 1st April 1969, the financial control of the Industrial Training Institutes in the States as well as in the Union Territories was transferred to the respective State Governments / Union Territory. The financial assistance was granted to them in the form of a bulk grant in consultation with the erstwhile Planning Commission and the Ministry of Finance.
